Case Study: CraftEd – University Placement Website for Global Education Pathways to Malaysia

Client: CraftEd — The Craft Catalyst (Nairobi, Kenya & Shah Alam, Malaysia)

CraftEd is the signature university placement solution of The Craft Catalyst, a CUE-approved University Agent in Kenya recognized by the Commission for University Education. CraftEd supports students and families from across East Africa — from the very first consultation to successful university placement and settling into life in Malaysia. The service provides guidance that is personal, professional, and fully transparent, covering everything from university selection and documentation preparation to visa guidance and post-arrival support. CraftEd operates through The Craft Catalyst's Kenya office on Riverside Drive, Nairobi, and through their Malaysia partner office at D'Sara Sentral, Shah Alam, Selangor.

Project Summary

Objective: Build a dedicated website for CraftEd that serves as the primary digital touchpoint for East African students and families exploring university education in Malaysia — featuring informative content, consultation booking, webinar registration, an eligibility checker, and a news blog that establishes thought leadership in the African-to-Malaysia education pathway.

Challenges

  • University placement is a high-trust, high-consideration decision for families — the site needed to build immediate credibility through professional design, CUE accreditation prominence, and clear communication of the placement process
  • Had to address the specific concerns of parents and students considering studying abroad: Is Malaysia safe? What are the costs? Which universities are available? How does the process work?
  • Needed a content-driven strategy to attract organic traffic from students and parents searching for study-abroad options — this required a blog with SEO-optimized articles
  • Required multiple conversion pathways: schedule a consultation, register for a webinar, check eligibility, or simply make contact — each serving a different stage of the user's decision journey
  • The service operates across two countries (Kenya and Malaysia) with different contact numbers, currencies, and time zones — the site needed to present this clearly without creating confusion
  • Had to differentiate CraftEd from generic study-abroad agencies by emphasizing their CUE approval, personalized approach, and exclusive focus on the Malaysia pathway

My Role & Responsibilities

As the lead web developer and designer, I was responsible for:

  • Designing and developing the CraftEd website (crafted.thecraftcatalyst.com) using WordPress
  • Building the homepage with the CraftEd value proposition, CUE accreditation badge, and key service highlights
  • Creating the News/Blog section with category-based content covering study-in-Malaysia insights, career guidance, and student reflections
  • Developing the webinar registration page with a booking form capturing first name, last name, email, and phone number
  • Building the consultation scheduling system with a contact form featuring dropdown service selection (Career Path & Advice, University Placement, General Inquiry, Other)
  • Implementing an eligibility checking modal for students to quickly determine if they qualify for the program
  • Setting up the contact section with dual-office details (Nairobi and Malaysia), operating hours, and phone numbers for both locations
  • Creating the "What happens next?" section that walks users through the three-step process: schedule a call, receive personalized consultation, get matched with the right institution
  • Ensuring mobile responsiveness, SEO optimization, and ongoing maintenance

Key Features Implemented

Homepage & Value Proposition

The CraftEd homepage immediately establishes credibility with the CUE-approved University Agent designation — prominently displayed to reassure parents and students that this is a vetted, government-recognized service. The core value proposition is clear: CraftEd supports students and families from the first consultation to successful university placement and settling into life in Malaysia. Three key features are highlighted with numbered presentations: Global Education Pathways (access to top Malaysian institutions), CUE-Approved University Agency (Commission for University Education accreditation), and End-to-End Admissions Support (from university selection and documentation prep to visa guidance). Each feature is designed to answer a specific concern a parent or student would have, creating a comprehensive but not overwhelming overview of the service.

News & Insights Blog

The blog at crafted.thecraftcatalyst.com/category/news/ serves as CraftEd's content marketing engine, attracting organic traffic from students and parents researching study-abroad options. Articles cover topics like "What Two Decades in African Talent Has Taught Me About Preparing Our Children," "10 Things That Will Make You Say: Wait — Malaysia Did That?", "Far From Home, Yet Somehow Familiar," and "What If You Could Know Your Child's Perfect Career Path — Before They Apply?" These articles are strategically written to target long-tail search queries while building thought leadership and trust. The blog uses a clean, readable layout with prominent "Read more" CTAs that keep users engaged and moving deeper into the site.

Webinar Registration & Consultation Booking

The site provides two distinct conversion pathways designed for users at different stages of their decision journey. The webinar registration page captures first name, last name, email, and phone number — a low-commitment entry point for students who are curious but not yet ready for a one-on-one conversation. The consultation scheduling form is more detailed, including a dropdown to select the type of help needed: Career Path & Advice, University Placement, General Inquiry, or Other, along with an open message field. This dual-pathway approach ensures the site captures leads at every stage, from casual interest to serious intent.

"What Happens Next?" User Journey

A dedicated section walks potential students through the three-step process: (1) We schedule a call at your convenience, (2) A personalized consultation to understand your goals, (3) We match you with the right institution or programme. This transparency about the process is critical for a service that involves significant financial and life decisions — parents and students need to know exactly what they're signing up for before they share their personal information. The section reduces anxiety and friction, making it easier for users to take the first step.

Dual-Office Contact & Operating Hours

The contact section displays comprehensive details for both offices: The Craft Catalyst Ltd. on Riverside Drive, Nairobi, Kenya (+254 742 950 093) and the Malaysia partner office at D'Sara Sentral, Shah Alam, Selangor (+60 36151 6403). Operating hours are clearly stated (Monday to Friday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturdays: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm). This dual-office presentation signals to families that CraftEd has genuine, on-the-ground presence in both the origin and destination countries — not just a website operating from one location. A privacy policy consent checkbox on the consultation form ensures Kenya DPA 2019 compliance.

Business Results

The CraftEd website has become a key driver of The Craft Catalyst's university placement business:

  • Established a dedicated digital presence for CraftEd that separates the university placement service from the broader Craft Catalyst brand, giving it focused identity and messaging
  • Generated consultation bookings and webinar registrations from students and families across East Africa through multiple conversion pathways
  • Attracted organic search traffic through the SEO-optimized blog, targeting high-intent queries from students researching study-in-Malaysia options
  • Built parent trust through CUE accreditation prominence, transparent process communication, and dual-office credibility
  • Strengthened the organization's positioning as a specialist in the Africa-to-Malaysia education corridor — a niche with growing demand but limited dedicated online resources
  • Created a content marketing foundation that continues to generate inbound leads through educational blog content

Ongoing Engagement

I continue to maintain and support the CraftEd website:

  • Publishing new blog posts and SEO-optimized content
  • Updating webinar registration forms and consultation workflows
  • Performance optimization and security updates
  • Adding new university partner information and program details
  • Ensuring consistency with the parent Craft Catalyst corporate site and the CraftEx platform site

What I'm Most Proud Of

What makes this project special is the human impact behind it. Every consultation booking that comes through this website represents a student who might otherwise never have considered studying in Malaysia — or who might have gone through an unreliable, unaccredited agency. CraftEd is doing something meaningful: opening up a world-class education pathway for African students, with the CUE accreditation and personalized support that gives parents peace of mind. Building the website that serves as the front door for that journey — the first touchpoint for a family making a life-changing decision — is a responsibility I took seriously, and I'm proud of how it turned out.

Client Feedback (Paraphrased)

"The CraftEd site has become our most important lead generation tool. Parents love the clarity — they can see our CUE approval, understand the process, and book a consultation without any confusion. The blog has been particularly effective at bringing in families who found us through Google. Bret built us more than a website; he built our primary channel for student acquisition."
