Case Study: The Craft Catalyst – Corporate Website for a Future-of-Work EdTech Organization

Client: The Craft Catalyst (Nairobi, Kenya)

The Craft Catalyst is a Nairobi-based EdTech organization with a bold mission: catalyze talent for the future of work. Founded by Chris Otundo, a veteran with over 18 years of experience advising Africa's most ambitious organizations, The Craft Catalyst combines immersive exposure with digital platforms to help students build global skills and real-world confidence. They operate two flagship offerings: CraftEd, a CUE-approved university placement agency connecting East African students to top Malaysian universities, and CraftEx, Kenya's first AI-powered virtual work simulation platform. The organization operates from offices on Riverside Drive in Nairobi, with a partner office in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

Project Summary

Objective: Build a professional corporate website that serves as the digital home for The Craft Catalyst — communicating the organization's mission, showcasing both platforms (CraftEd and CraftEx), presenting the partnership model to corporate organizations, and providing clear pathways for potential partners, universities, and students to get in touch.

Challenges

  • Needed a single corporate site that could represent two distinct products (CraftEd for university placement and CraftEx for virtual work experience) without either feeling like an afterthought
  • Had to establish The Craft Catalyst as a credible, forward-thinking organization in the Kenyan EdTech space — the site needed to feel like it belonged to a serious player, not a startup
  • The "Partner With Us" section needed to appeal to corporate organizations, making a compelling business case for why companies should invest in connecting with students before they enter the job market
  • The organization operates across two countries (Kenya and Malaysia), so the site needed to communicate this cross-border capability without creating confusion
  • Required a contact and inquiry system that could capture leads from multiple audience types — students, parents, universities, and corporate partners
  • The messaging needed to balance professional gravitas with accessibility, speaking to both a CEO considering a talent pipeline partnership and a student exploring global education options

My Role & Responsibilities

As the lead web developer and designer, I was responsible for:

  • Designing and developing the corporate website (thecraftcatalyst.com) using WordPress
  • Building the hero section with the brand tagline "Explore. Experience. Expand." and the core mission statement "Catalyzing Talent for the Future of Work"
  • Creating the "Who We Are" section that establishes the organization's experience, approach, and core mission
  • Developing the offerings showcase featuring both CraftEd and CraftEx with detailed descriptions and CTAs
  • Building the "Partner With Us" section with a compelling business case for corporate collaboration
  • Implementing a contact form with fields for first name, second name, email, phone, company, job title, and message
  • Showcasing the organization's physical presence in Nairobi, Kenya and Shah Alam, Malaysia
  • Ensuring mobile responsiveness, fast loading, and SEO optimization
  • Ongoing maintenance and support

Key Features Implemented

Brand Identity & Hero Section

The homepage opens with the brand's three-word philosophy — "Explore. Experience. Expand." — immediately followed by the headline "Catalyzing Talent for the Future of Work." This combination creates an instant impression of a purpose-driven, ambitious organization. The hero section sets the tone for the entire site: professional, modern, and mission-focused. Below the hero, the "Who We Are" section establishes the organization's credibility with a concise statement about combining years of experience with a results-focused approach, using immersive exposure and digital platforms to help students build global skills and real-world confidence.

Core Mission & Approach Showcase

The site features a structured presentation of The Craft Catalyst's methodology across four pillars: Technology-led talent innovation, Reengineering education-to-experience pathway, Building global skills and confidence, and their promised outcomes including seamless university placements, credible professional experience, and stronger future-of-work employability. This section was designed to give partners and investors a quick, scannable understanding of what makes the organization different — moving beyond vague EdTech buzzwords into specific, actionable commitments.

Dual-Platform Offerings Section

The "Our Offerings" section presents both platforms side by side. CraftEd is described as The Craft Catalyst's signature university placement solution, highlighting three key features: global education pathways to top Malaysian institutions, CUE-approved university agency accreditation, and end-to-end admissions support from university selection through documentation prep to visa guidance. Each feature has a clear, numbered presentation that makes the offering feel structured and comprehensive. The section includes a prominent "Get More Information" CTA that directs visitors toward consultation. CraftEx is presented alongside, reinforcing that The Craft Catalyst is not a single-product company but an ecosystem addressing the full education-to-career pipeline.

"Partner With Us" Corporate Engagement Section

One of the most strategically important sections of the site, the "Partner With Us" page is written directly for corporate organizations. It makes a clear business case: by partnering with The Craft Catalyst, organizations gain direct access to motivated, work-ready graduates before they enter the job market — strengthening talent pipelines, increasing brand visibility among top university students, and contributing to a movement redefining career readiness in Kenya. The section includes direct contact information (phone number and Nairobi address) and a full contact form with company-specific fields (company name, job title), signaling to corporate visitors that this is a professional, business-ready organization.

Contact & Inquiry System

The contact form captures six key data points: first name, second name, email, phone, company, and job title — along with an open message field. The form submission includes a consent checkbox linked to the privacy policy, ensuring compliance with Kenya's data protection requirements. The form is designed to serve multiple use cases: a student inquiring about CraftEd, a corporate executive exploring a talent partnership, or a university administrator interested in embedding CraftEx into their curriculum. The site also displays direct contact details — phone number (+254 742 950 093) and physical address (Riverside Drive, Nairobi) — for visitors who prefer to reach out directly.

Business Results

The corporate website established The Craft Catalyst's digital foundation:

  • Created a professional, authoritative online presence for a growing EdTech organization, reinforcing credibility with university administrators, corporate decision-makers, and government regulators
  • Successfully presented two distinct platforms (CraftEd and CraftEx) within a single cohesive brand narrative without either product feeling secondary
  • Generated corporate partnership inquiries through the "Partner With Us" section and contact form
  • Established cross-border credibility by showcasing offices in both Nairobi, Kenya and Shah Alam, Malaysia
  • Provided a central digital hub that links out to both crafted.thecraftcatalyst.com (CraftEd) and craftex.africa (CraftEx), creating a unified web presence across all properties
  • Strengthened the organization's positioning for CUE accreditation and regulatory compliance by presenting a professional, trustworthy image to government bodies like Kenya's Commission for University Education

Ongoing Engagement

I continue to maintain and support The Craft Catalyst's corporate website:

  • Content updates as new partnerships and programs are announced
  • SEO optimization to improve organic visibility for EdTech and future-of-work keywords
  • Performance monitoring and security updates
  • Ensuring consistency across the corporate site and the two product-specific sites (CraftEd and CraftEx)

What I'm Most Proud Of

Building a corporate website for an organization with as much vision as The Craft Catalyst required more than just good design — it required understanding their ecosystem. They're not just running one product; they're building an integrated pipeline from university education to workplace readiness, and they're doing it across two countries. The site needed to reflect that scope without feeling scattered. Creating a single page that makes a parent feel confident about sending their child to Malaysia, a CEO feel excited about a talent partnership, and a university administrator feel compelled to integrate virtual work simulations — all from the same brand, the same site — that's the kind of design challenge I find deeply satisfying.

Client Feedback (Paraphrased)

"The site gave us a digital home that matches the ambition of what we're building. Partners take us more seriously when they see a professional website. Universities refer to it. Corporate partners have reached out directly through the contact form. It's become the anchor for everything we do online."
